Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

POSITION SUMMARY This position is responsible for delivering quality instruction in an equitable environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Teach courses via on-ground, online, hybrid or web-enhanced delivery modes as assigned. The instructor shall observe rules, policies, and regulations set forth by the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Shelbyville (TCAT), Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR), and the Council of Occupational Education (COE); and shall strive to promote and elevate the mission and philosophy of occupational education within the areas served. They shall keep abreast of industry standards and techniques, reviewing periodicals and industry magazines commensurate to the course being taught.&nbsp; The instructor shall follow and maintain a complete progressive course of study, lesson plans, assignments, and instructional aides to meet educational requirements and industry standards. They shall also oversee student conduct, motivation, safety, discipline, and appearance, addressing issues as they arise.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

<li>3+ years of approved work experience in the occupation to be taught.</li>

RESPONSIBILITIES

Title: Criminal Justice Instructor - Evening Shift
Campus Location: Walters State Community College Niswonger Campus (Employees are assigned to a “home” location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)
Job Purpose:&nbsp;The purpose of this position is to supervise, coordinate, develop curriculum, and instruct classes in the program at the Regional Law Enforcement Training Academy/Criminal Justice Degree Program, primarily during the evening hours between 2 pm and 10 pm. Work hours and location may vary depending on the academy training session. Serves as a liaison with state and regional public safety personnel, focusing on quality academic programming, student success, instructor evaluations, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Provides public safety training, conducts student performance evaluations, student advising, student recruiting, and participates in college committees. The incumbent is also responsible for attending training conferences such as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association (ILEETA), Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), Association of Law Enforcement Response Trainers (ALERT), Tennessee P.O.S.T. Essential Job Functions:

<li>As the Instructor of Criminal Justice Divisional Activities, the incumbent assists with developing divisional goals and objectives, ensuring they align and support the College goals and objectives. Provides leadership for RLETA by following TN POST guidelines in a supervisory role for cadets. Participates in developing and recommending policies, procedures, and needs for custodial care and maintenance of physical facilities for instructing, work, or study within the Division. Assist with developing in-service offerings, recruiting instructors, accommodating the hosting of outside groups, and providing in-service training. Provides public safety training for the regional area. Assist the Director and Division Dean in preparing fiscal year budget requests.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Responsible for overseeing and facilitating academic courses each semester and developing the semester class schedule for recommended courses offered in the Criminal Justice Program. Ensures continuous program and instructional assessments are carried out through observation and evaluation in all delivery modes. Responsible for compiling, interpreting, and sharing information provided through instructional research with the Division. Manages, facilitates, and oversees training for firearms, driving, physical fitness, and defense tactics.</li>
<li>Contributes to new courses and programs of study, recommends modifying or discontinuing courses or programs of study. Responsible for attendance at regional and national professional organization meetings. Assist the Counseling Office in advising students with general or special problems related to the department. Responsible for participating in one college-wide graduation, four program graduations, and one Advisory Board meeting.</li>
<li>Recommends to the Director/Dean the need for additional faculty to instruct an increased course load. Defines staff requirements by identifying the qualifications and skills necessary for implementing departmental programs.
