Job Summary

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Murfreesboro is accepting applications for a full-time faculty member in its Telecommunications program at the Murfreesboro campus. The Telecommunications faculty member is responsible to the Vice President for Instruction and Accreditation for instruction in the Telecommunications program.

Job Duties

  • Responsible for providing individualized theory and hands-on instruction to adult and high school students to prepare them for employment in the field.
  • Provide students with the fundamental theories, principles, experiments and real-world experiences in Telecommunications. Telecommunications first trimester incorporates several certifications built on recognized industry standards in the study of copper and fiber optic-based systems, along with telephony and cabling to prepare students to sit for C-TECH certifications. The second trimester concentrates on hardware, windows, MAC, and Linux, storage, networking, mobile devices, system management, implementation and file management utilizing Test-out to prepare students for CompTIA A+ certification. During the last trimester students study satellite fundamentals, residential electrical systems, audio-video, and security-surveillance with practical applications to prepare for SBCA and ETA STS certifications.
  • Monitor, grade, and evaluate individual student progress; assist with maintaining student records in the college’s student records management software; maintain appropriate documentation; submit timely reports; and assist in recruitment of new students and placement of graduates.
  • Maintain good public relations with business and industry, assist with advisory committee and cooperate with outside agencies.
  • This position may also supervise and follow up on students participating in cooperative education.
  • Other duties as assigned by the President or Vice President.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum three (3) years of experience in the Telecommunications field, preferably within the last five (5) years.

Preferred Qualifications

• Post-secondary Skilled Trades credential from an accredited institution.
• Classroom experience and/or appropriate administration experience in delivery of workforce education and training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Must show evidence of good character, organizational skills, and mature attitude.
• Must be willing to remain current in the instructional field and maintain personal certifications and program accreditation(s).
• Must possess the communication skills necessary to be an effective teacher and interact with high school and adults.
• Strong hands-on technical background in the field.
• Must possess skills and knowledge to teach the theory and application in all phases of the Telecommunications program.
• Proficient computer skills including MS Office Suite, working knowledge of network systems, Banner, and D2L.

Physical Demands:

  • Walking, bending, sitting, and squatting in order to operate campus equipment. 
  • Able to use body members (arms, hands, fingers), tools, or special devices to work, move, guide, or place objects.
  • Communicating for lengthy periods.
  • Sitting at a computer for extended periods.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the campus.
  • Occasional travel required.
  • Requires concentrated mental and visual attention; i.e., see at close range.
  • Lifting 20 lbs.

Salary Range:

This is a full-time, exempt position.  Salary range $49,159 to $64,259, commensurate with qualifications, education, experience and in accordance with the guidelines established by the Tennessee Board of Regents.
