Howmet Aerospace Inc.’s Corporate EHS&S organization has an immediate opening for a Senior Manager, Corporate Environmental. This position is responsible for providing environmental management leadership and regulatory/technical consulting services to Howmet locations and business units.

The primary areas of focus include water management (i.e. water, stormwater, wastewater treatment), environmental metrics and sustainability disclosures, circular economy solutions support, and environmental compliance management.  A working knowledge-level in other environmental disciplines (waste, chemical release, EPCRA, TSCA, transportation) is expected to provide consulting support.  This position reports to the Director, Corporate Environmental and closely interacts with internal customers at the Corporate, BU, and location levels.

Preferred location for this role is at Howmet’s Corporate Headquarters located in Pittsburgh, PA (remote candidates in the Eastern U.S. with aligned qualifications may be considered).

Major activities / Key Challenges
  • Support plant, Business Unit (BU), and corporate programs in all environmental media with a primary focus on water, stormwater, and wastewater treatment.  Conduct regulatory analysis and summaries on proposed/new regulations (primarily U.S.), as well as national, state and local permits.  Assist locations with applying, obtaining, reviewing, and complying with environmental permits and associated plans (SWPPP and SPCC)
  • Lead the compilation, analysis and quality assurance of environmental metrics to support progress towards Corporate environmental sustainability targets. Contribute to internal and external Sustainability/ESG disclosures (e.g. CRSD, S&P CSA, GRI, CDP, etc.) and external customer enquiries and mandates.  Collect and communicate ESG success stories
  • Manage the environmental compliance management system.  Work with locations and business unit environmental managers to ensure incidents are addressed in a timely manner through corrective actions with focus on root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.  Prepare periodic reports on compliance trends
  • Provide technical and regulatory support services in a highly competitive and rigorous cost environment. Build strong supportive professional relationships with internal customers. Identify and track emerging environmental issues and communicate with internal stakeholders to ensure potential impact to Howmet locations, businesses and regions are understood
  • Serve as a technical contact for specific Howmet mandated standards, environmental self-assessment tools and incident prevention/investigation programs. Help establish leading metrics for environmental sustainability performance
  • Develop and deliver environmental training and skill-building sessions to internal customers. Foster a culture of organizational learning, benchmarking, and sharing best practices
  • Provide technical support to various environmental data collection, analysis, and reporting systems. Maintain and update information on media-specific SharePoint sites
  • Align with EHS leadership on company priorities well-beyond minimum compliance and drive performance to improve sustainability ratings and reduce costs
  • Lead and/or participate in audits, risk assessments, incident investigations and compliance reviews for all environmental media. Assist, coach and counsel location and line leadership in execution of the EHS&S strategy

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in engineering, environment sciences or a related field
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in plant environmental management roles or environmental consulting
  • Experience in compliance troubleshooting of wastewater treatment from metal pickling, etching, cleaning operations, and water conservation initiatives, and cooling tower efficiency improvement
  • Experience in U.S. federal and applicable state regulations covering water, stormwater and wastewater treatment
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
  • Willing and able to travel to company locations 10%-20% of the time

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge in environmental engineering and Sphera Cloud management systems
  • Expertise in metal casting, forging or fastener operations and manufacturing/service offerings in the USA
  • Multi-media industrial compliance expertise in US federal, state, and local environmental regulations and some experience with EU environmental regulations.
  • Experience with preparation of ESG disclosures
  • Strong capabilities in practical environmental compliance in heavy industrial operations, as well as a keen interest and experience in driving environmental sustainability performance forward across a global organization

Salary range: $125k – $145k/year approximation (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to factors such as education, experience, skillset, and/or location).
