Professor in Sociology and Anthropology

Under the Regents' Research Excellence program, the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Texas at El Paso is recruiting a scholar at the full professor rank with a focus on Environmental Social Sciences, Human-Environment Relations, and/or Environmental Justice broadly. Research and specialization on Water, Geographic Information Systems, and/or the U.S. Mexico border region are strongly preferred. The successful candidate will engage in collaborative research within our department and across campus. A strong record of extramural grant funding is required. Outstanding Advanced Associate Professors are encouraged to apply.

The University of Texas System Regents' Research Excellence Program supports the hire of outstanding researchers who will strengthen the R1 status of the University of Texas at El Paso. Faculty hired into the rank of tenured full professor will be given the additional honorific title of Regents' Distinguished Research Professor. Faculty hired at a lower rank will earn this title upon promotion to full professor with tenure.

Job Requirements:
The candidate will possess a PhD in Sociology, Anthropology, Geography, or a related discipline. Candidates will have an extensive demonstrated record of extramural funding, publications, and collaborations. We expect successful candidates to have an outstanding record commensurate with this position. Candidates will be evaluated based on departmental standards for a Full Professor.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems Technology
  • A focus on the U.S. Mexico border, U.S. Southwest or Northern Mexico
  • A scholarly interest in water
