TRIO Student Support Services program is a federally funded program designed to promote and encourage academic excellence and success through a vast range of ongoing academic support services. TRIO SSS provides guidance and individualized support to assist students who are first generation to college, have a financial need (low-income), and/or have a documented disability. The goal is to increase college retention and graduation rates amongst our program participants.

Tutoring Subject Areas:

  • Math (All Levels)
  • Writing
  • Understand the assignment and the student’s learning style.
  • Be prepared to engage student in active learning and be able to identify students’ strengths and deficiencies using appropriate tutoring strategies to assist the student.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions to TRIO SSS students.
  • Work closely with TRIO SSS staff to identify appropriate students and to provide updates, as needed.
  • Communicate with TRIO SSS staff regarding scheduling adjustments.
  • Attend tutor trainings and meetings.
  • Comfortability in using zoom for on-line tutoring. 
  • Complete all record keeping, as required by grant guidelines using TRIO SSS on-line database system.

REQUIRED: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant subject area, education, or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in subject area. 
  • Experience teaching or tutoring one-on-one or in small group settings.
  • Previous experience working with college students. 
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in using on-line learning platforms.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse student and staff body.  
PREFERRED:
  • Preference will be given to linguistically diverse candidates from first- generation, low-income, and academically disadvantaged populations.

Part-time, Non-Benefited, MCCC unit position

Rate: $33.95/hour

Hours:  18.5 hours/week with varying schedule 

Funding:  Grant

- All candidates must have legal authorization to work in the United States. HCC is not sponsoring H1B Visa. 
 - Pre-Employment Background check, including Criminal History will be conducted for all positions.
