Job Summary

    The magazine editor/senior communications editor serves as primary editor for print and digital communications for the Office of Alumni Affairs and the Auburn Alumni Association, as well as editor of the quarterly print edition and frequently updated digital pages of Auburn Magazine. Areas of focus and concentration include:
1. Focuses 40% of time editing and/or writing internal copy for print and digital collateral.
2. Centers 60% of time to planning and coordinating the layout of publications and collaborates with internal graphic designers.
3. Develops and evaluates strategies related to communications, public relations, and/or relevant programs.
4. Consults with authors when needed on content and publication planning for various types of publications and communications.
5. Coordinates or assists in the process, production and printing work with outside vendors to include but not limited to providing estimates, bids, and quotes.
6. Assists Alumni Affairs VP and executive team in preparing materials necessary for copy production.
7. Creates and maintains a budget as well as all applicable reports and records.
8. Effectively provides supervision and collaboration with a team ensuring deadlines are met.
9. Ability to attend weekend quarterly board meetings.
10. Ability to travel domestically attending conferences, networking events, or editorial assignments.
11. Proficient and knowledgeable of Apple products and digital media  


Minimum Qualifications

    Entry into the applicant pool requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Journalism, English, Mass Communications, or a related field; 4 years of experience in writing and editing communications/publications and/or in journalism (experience successfully producing a magazine with at least a quarterly production, and experience managing periodicals or publications budget, including itemization and revenue generation offsets are highly desired); experience successfully working with a creative team of writers, designers, and photographers; excellent grasp of long-form feature style and function; excellent skills in copy editing, including in-depth knowledge of grammar, punctuation, spelling and proofreading; and experience working in a Macintosh team environment, with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Adobe InDesign. Employer will consider advanced related degrees in lieu of experience.
